Mitt Romney

The notion that Mitt Romney, after spending 4 years pandering to the Republican right wing in order to get in their good graces, would, as President, revert to the non-ideological technocratic, moderate that he is believed to be deep down inside is purely delusional.

Let's assume that he wins the Republican nomination (extremely unlikely) and the election, he will be in thrall to that same right wing.  How would anyone expect him to suddenly stop pandering or to ignore the immense amount of pressure that will be placed on him (or any Republican President) from the Rush Limbough segment of the party?  Romney would be toast the first time he transgresses, and he will be fully aware of that fact.  And after spending so much time and effort blowing with the prevailing winds in his chosen party, how would he ever find the moral courage to change course?

We can forget the notion that Romney would govern as a moderate.  That may be his natural inclination, but he has suppressed that to date and will continue to do so.
